Rituals and rhythms give children the predictability to feel safe and it is from this place they launch fully into PLAY! This is where children build their sense of the known and a sense of security. It is through these times that they become emotionally satisfied and it is then we see and observe wonderfully rich independent play. Just like us, children need rituals.
Rituals and care moments are the heart of the day. They breathe life into what could be ordinary. We can keep our hearts lifted if rituals become ‘routine’ for us. They add that bit more for us and for our children – more care, more attention, more love, more specialness.
If you want to incorporate rituals into your practice and place, it’s important you’re well prepared in the head, heart and hand. This means that you know why, how and what you’re doing. You need to have the necessary items ready, set up in good order, clean, tidy, attractive and beautiful. You have to set aside time in order to give the ritual your full attention.
At all times during preparation, the why, how and what should be genuine and purposeful. Explore with us how ritual preparation is empowering and should contribute to the group.
You will learn:
In this one-hour virtual gathering for carers and teachers, we introduce you to a new way of looking at your daily programme, routines and structures. Some of the things you'll explore include:
- What are rituals?
- Why are they important?
- How do they influence children's play?
- What do you plan for in your programme?
- Learn about the different aspects of ritual, routine and rhythm.
- What dominates your programme?
- How can you make your programme and setting more authentic, meaningful and joyful?
Children may forget what they heard or even what they did – but your aim is for them to never forget how your beautiful place made them feel! Will you join us on the journey of building trust?
You will get access to one hour of video with Kimberley and Anja and a downloadable PDF handout.
