A Heart for who you are, as individual and as a team
- 0 comments
The end of a year can feel like a door closing, but that’s if we measure our journey only by the calendar. But if we also measure it in HEART, and the pivotal human-moments, and our own growth, the new year is an exciting flow on from the last - a continuation of the Heart Path.
We don’t just leave the old behind but we carry our ‘heart luggage’ with us. And we USE it going forward - some stored in the Heart Bank, some in the ‘how we are’ file, and some selected for the ‘Inventory of Intentions’. These are the things you know need your deliberate focus, for you to state and step up to, and keep taking stock of.
A year can feel long when we live it with children so heart-fully and want to bring our best selves. We often start off full of zest that drains away slowly as the months go by. Now is a good time to take stock and reflect. Are we burning BRIGHT or burning out?
Our main ‘do’ is to serve children. We can serve them in the most basic sense of the word, physical needs only, OR in the fullest, most heartfelt sense of the word. HOW are we when we serve?.
When it comes to our programme and practice, just because we have ‘always done it this way’ doesn’t mean it still meets the needs. We often hold on to things that are no longer a good fit - perhaps out of a sense of tradition, or out of trepidation at being the one to call ‘time’s up’. Can we LET GO of the things that no longer serve us?
Strong teams are made up of unique individuals who have a shared sense of what is essential. Their style is their own, and their individuality is respected, but the fundamental beliefs are in tune with each other. The things you stand FOR are the same, the non-negotiables are shared, and the passion for togetherness is there. Is your team in full understanding and alignment with your who, why and what?
Do you know what your team shares:
a zest for?
a commitment to?
a faith in?
a resistance to?
We are taught to look outward to ‘experts’, not to travel inwards. But inwards is the path to we discovering who we are. When we learn who we are we can be the very best version of that. We can be authentically us, and have the contentment that comes when we truly live in alignment, as individuals and as a team. These are the kinds of adults our children need - not just ‘head-skilled’ ones, but heart-wise ones!
